Art as a kind of control

As I wrote in I don’t understand music (part 5 – an attempt at an anthropological justification of music), Music may have arisen from the emergence of human values such as fear and hope. Contrary to appearances, the concept of the end of life is a form of abstraction. Here I will add another issue that is crucial in human life, and certainly appears in the life of an artist: control.

As St Celfer (John wrote to me):
“I was desperate to find calm in my life as a kid, which was not under my control, and in my mind, which now 50 years later I have learned to calm.”
Insertion – John were an athlete, coach, and painter – stubborn – full of successes (among other – olympic successes)

In other mail he wrote:
“Music was always in my control. Music saved me. It kept me up when I was down. It was always there. There is more freedom in the mind than in the body.”

Personally, in chess, music, science, and engineering, I’m very drawn to control. It’s so compelling that when I played chess with a friend and showed them my game plan, I was thrilled with my plan, even when it turned out to be a losing one… a bummer…

Once a time I’ve reworked a large portion of my application through 2 weeks so that it does exactly what it used to. The difference is that I’m using different external libraries, which will make the application easier to extend. Even though I can’t see the change, I get a lot of satisfaction from gaining much more control
